Job Summary:

Reporting to the Executive Director and Supervised by the Communications & Administration Manager, the Office Assistant provides support to the organization as per the responsibilities of the role and ensure confidentiality, prompt communication, and resourcefulness.

 

Eligibility:

To be eligible for the position of Office Assistant – Summer Student, you must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • have been registered as full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment

  • Assists Executive Director in grants and report writing.
  • Provides support to the Administration department as and when required.
  • Works in collaboration with the Marketing Assistant and plans and creates promotional content for fundraisers and events.
  • Creates and implements marketing plan for upcoming fundraisers and events.
  • Works collaboratively with community partners and CASASC team members to coordinate the aspects of fundraisers and events.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Education Program & Community Relations Manager, the Educator is an integral part of the Education team, responsible to support CASASC’s goal to increase the personal safety awareness through education and empowering them to prevent sexual violence.

Based on CASASC’s mission and vision, the Educator acts as a liaison between CASASC, Community, Schools, and Organizations, focusing on delivering education programs to create awareness and prevention strategies among K-12 students, adults, parents, professionals, and other individuals of the community.

The Educators are also expected to represent CASASC in a professional manner, work according to the missions and vision of CASASC and build community relations including (but not limited to) conducting community visits, attending meetings, staffing booths, and events organized by partner agencies and other organizations within Central Alberta.

The Educator is expected to have full knowledge of, and to follow the Philosophy, the Guidelines for Personnel Policies & Practices, and the Policies & Procedures of the CASASC while upholding our mission, vision, and values.

 

Qualifications and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education with 1-2 years of related experience. A combination of education and experience may also be considered for the position.
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of sexual violence prevention and intervention strategies. Experience of working in a non-profit would be considered as an asset.
  • Must have excellent communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills.
  • Experience of working in, facilitating, or teaching in a classroom and/or group settings.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English is essential.
  • Ability to work as a collaborative team member as well as an independent key player with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to build rapport with children and youth from Kindergarten to Grade 12
  • Ability to relate to adults and professionals for the successful delivery of education and awareness information
  • Superior time management skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision
  • Proficient using computers and presentation equipment (incl. basic troubleshooting) of virtual and presentation platforms (zoom, google meet, projector, and sound setup)
  • Proficient in Windows, MS-Office, Internet, email & social media is essential.
  • Availability to work occasional evenings/weekends for special events, be able to travel within Central Alberta to fulfil job responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare and deliver all CASASC education programs by providing interactive and dynamic presentations, and education material by using age-appropriate methods and activities, either in-person or virtual; in schools and communities throughout the CASASC service region.
  • Design and deliver tailored education programs as/if requested by the schools, community and/or other agencies within CASASC’s service region.
  • Participate in community public education forums and/or events to promote the awareness of sexual violence issues & CASASC services. (Attending interagency meeting, staffing booths and events, conducting community visits)
  • Update education programs statistics in the tracking program and submit monthly/quarterly/annual reports to facilitate grants and internal requirements.
  • Conduct regular research and keep education programs’ content up-to-date related to CASASC’s prevention education such as (but not limited to) sexual violence, teen dating, consent, healthy relationships, and any other program that supports CASASC’s mission and vision.
  • Ensure that Education department’s events and programs are posted on CASASC’s social media platforms by submitting relevant and timely information to the Education Program and Community Relations Manager. In the absence of the Manager, work in direct collaboration with the Communications Manager to ensure the same.
  • Keep the schools and community contact list up-to-date. Stay in regular contact with the schools and community through different mediums to ensure the regular delivery of education programs to the target audience.
  • Communicate with internal departments of the organization and share departmental updates on regular basis.
  • Connect with newly hired employees of the organization and briefly introduce them to the operations of Education Department.
  • Design tailored education programs to cater the needs of diverse community including the Indigenous Communities.

  • Adheres to the values and guiding principles, policies, and procedures of CASASC and supports the strategic direction of the organization.
  • Participates in staff meetings and offered trainings.

The Central Alberta Sexual Assault Support Centre (CASASC) is seeking a self-identified Indigenous individual to join the Kinship Intervention Program (KIP) team as the Community Outreach Facilitator.

We specialize in healing sexual trauma so you can talk freely about the hard stuff with no judgement. We provide a range of support services for individuals who are affected by sexual violence including counselling, play therapy, police and court support, crisis support and education.

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the KIP Team-lead and responsible to the Executive Director, The KIP Community Outreach Facilitator works in partnership with the KIP Team Lead to achieve the objectives of the Project, the prevention of sexual assault incidents within the Indigenous Juvenile population in Central Alberta. This involves evidence-based early intervention for issues including childhood sexual behavior concerns. The overall goal / objective of the project is to utilize a multi-systemic approach.

QUALIFICATION & SKILLS

– Bachelor’s in social work, Psychology or equivalent preferred. (A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered)

– At least 2 years of experience working in similar industry will be considered as an asset or a combination of education, knowledge, aptitude, and skills.

– Have a passion to work with Indigenous Community.

– Must have excellent interpersonal skills and business development acumen.

– Must be empathic and have ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with community partners, clients, CASASC team members and other stake holders.

– Have flexible and adaptive approach and must be willing to take challenges, learn and gain knowledge and experience.

– Be a self-starter with ability and aptitude to achieve goals and work with different community partners.

– Must have proficient computer skills (MS Office), database management programs, reporting skills.

– Excellent time management, organization, and advocacy skills.

– The position requires travel to Indigenous Communities/Reserves within Central Alberta (approx. 50% of time). The Company’s vehicle will be used for official travel purpose. Candidate must have a valid driver’s license and be able to produce clean driver’s abstract.

– Must be able to provide a clear and valid criminal record check and vulnerable sector check.

– Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job and be able to lift minimum 40lbs as and when required to fulfill the job responsibilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

– Establish and enhance communication and partnership with communities and key Elders in the communities.

– Build relationships with Elders in communities within Central Alberta for guidance on cultural approaches to add value to service delivery such as smudging the room prior to therapy sessions etc.

– Reach out to Indigenous Communities and/or Reserves and build rapport with Community Elders/Band Chief.

– Provide information to Communities about the services offered by CASASC under the KIP Project and other programs and services of CASASC.

– Connect clients with CASASC’s internal programs as required.

– Educate the community and work in partnership with KIP project-lead on sexual violence prevention within Indigenous juvenile and related issues.

– Educate and empower communities to understand sexual violence prevention and early intervention and educate communities to understand their rights and responsibilities as participating member of the society.

– Helps facilitate clients’ optimized utilization of all community supports and services.

– Work in collaboration with CASASC education team on developing resources and training material for staff interacting with Indigenous youth, their family, and the school system on cultural sensitivity, Indigenous therapies, and intercultural counselling methods.

– Develops and maintains effective teamwork relationships within CASASC and with external stakeholders.

Position Summary

The KIP Community Outreach Specialist is a collaborative member of the KIP program who works in partnership with the KIP Project Lead to achieve the objective of the KIP project: the prevention of sexual assault incidents within the Indigenous juvenile population in Central Alberta.   • Work collaboratively with the CASASC Education Team to develop educational resources and training materials for staff interacting with Indigenous youth their family and the school system on cultural sensitivity, Indigenous therapies and intercultural counselling methods.

The KIP Community Outreach Specialist role is designated for a candidate who self-identifies as Indigenous, with a preference given to an Indigenous individual who has experience in Indigenous-based community needs and cultural practices.

Position: Community & Court Support Worker

Reports to: Community Support Services (CSS) Coordinator

Job Type: Full Time – 12-month term-certain

Location: Main Office, Red Deer, Alberta

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week

Hourly rate: $22-25

Anticipated Start Date: December 1, 2020

Position Summary

As a part of CASASC’s Community Support Services team the Community & Court Support Worker is trained to listen and support you while you are considering or navigating the criminal justice system. They are advocates and sources of information for you – that safe guiding presence throughout the process.

Community & Court Support Worker also covers visits to those in the hospital or clients who face barriers in accessing in-office services. Outreach services are currently provided in, but not limited to: Maskwacis, Rocky Mountain House, Sylvan Lake, Olds, Wetaskiwin, Pigeon Lake, Red Deer and the Red Deer Regional Hospital.

Court Support:

  • Assist victims of sexual abuse/assault as they navigate their way through the criminal justice process including police investigations, preliminary hearings and trials.
  • Provide advocacy services to victim/survivors of sexual assault.
  • Assist with referrals for crisis care services for recent victims/survivors.
  • Provide specialist support and information regarding victim/survivors’ rights and options with legal and medical issues.
  • Provide assistance with court preparation and court accompaniment.

Community Support:

  • Attend interagency meetings as a representative of CASASC
  • Build strong working relationships with Victim Services Unit (VSUs) and Police Services (RCMP and Municipal) within service areas.

Other:

  • Provide program relevant statistical data for reports to CSS Coordinator
  • Promote self-development and professional growth through participation in training
  • Participate in staff meetings, team meetings, and committees as assigned
  • Any other duties or tasks as assigned by the CSS Coordinator

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Sociology or related degree/diploma
  • 2-3 years of work experience providing community or court support
  • Experience with Case Management and Caseload Planning
  • Experience working with survivors of sexual abuse, sexual violence, domestic violence, and/or mental health will be considered an asset.
  • Experience with Aboriginal and Indigenous communities and extensive knowledge of culture, customs, and traditions (preferred).

The Central Alberta Sexual Assault Support Centre (CASASC) is a voluntary, non-profit organization serving the Central Alberta region under the direction of a community-based Board of Directors.

We specialize in healing sexual trauma so you can talk freely about the hard stuff with no judgement. We provide a range of support services for individuals who are affected by sexual violence including counselling, play therapy, police and court support, crisis support and education.

Position: Counsellor (Adult)

Reports to: Clinical Coordinator

Job Type: Full Time – 12-month term-certain (maternity-leave), with possibility for extension

Location: Main Office, Red Deer, Alberta

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week

Hourly rate: $25-35/hr

Position Summary

The Counsellor is a collaborative member of the CASASC Clinical team who provides crisis, short-term, and long-term counselling services to those affected by sexual violence, regardless of the length of time since the trauma incident.

The role of the Counsellor is to provide individual or group sessions to support personal coping skills and accelerate recovery in those who are experiencing the after-effects of a trauma.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide crisis intervention, problem solving, and/or psycho-educational supports to individuals, groups, and/or families.
  • Provide goal directive supportive counselling in the client’s preferred format (in-person, telephone, or video chat)
  • Ensure safety planning is provided to according to agency standards
  • Provide community information, referrals, and services by accompaniment, in accordance with agency and professional standards.
  • Adhere to the code of ethics and standards of practice of both the agency and the applicable professional regulatory body.
  • Maintain digital records of topics covered and results of individual and/or group counselling activities in accordance with agency standards
  • Assist with crisis calls/webchats/texts, intakes, walk-ins, and/or visitor inquiries
  • Build strong working relationships with health services agencies, community organizations, and peers
  • Any other duties or tasks as assigned by the Clinical Coordinator

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Psychology, Social Work or related diploma & professional registration (RSW, RPN). ** Preference for those with clinical experience and/or currently enrolled in a Master’s degree or post-Graduate program in Counselling **
  • 2-5 years working experience providing individual and group counselling/support
  • Experience with Case Management and Caseload Planning
  • Experience working with survivors of sexual abuse, sexual violence, domestic violence, and/or mental health will be considered an asset.

Position: Educator – No Secrets

Reports to: Community Support Services Coordinator

Job Type: Full Time – 12-month term-certain (maternity-leave)

Location:  Red Deer, AB & occasional daily travel to schools within Central Alberta

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week

Hourly rate: Determined based on education and experience

Anticipated Start Date: Immediately

Position Summary

As a part of CASASC’s Education team, the Educator – No Secrets supports our goal to increase the personal safety of individuals through education and empowerment, which will prevent sexual violence.

Our school-based program No Secrets is a two-part personal safety program for students K-8 with a focus on child sexual abuse prevention. No Secrets Part 1 is for children ages 5-9 focusing on the topics of safe and unsafe touching, safe and unsafe secrets, body parts including private areas, feelings and who you can tell. No Secrets Part 2 is for youth ages 10-13 builds on topics from Part 1 while exploring the importance of a safety network, the foundations of a healthy relationship, body ownership and boundaries, and consent (education and empowerment).

This position is one part of the two-person No Secrets educational team. Each educator on the team is responsible for preparing and delivering either part of the No Secrets program, determined by the Community Support Services Coordinator.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and deliver the No Secrets program by providing interactive and dynamic presentations using age-appropriate methods and activities.
  • Participate in community public education forums and/or events to promote the awareness of sexual violence issues
  • Provide program relevant statistical data for reports

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or a relevant diploma (EA/ELCC) with 1-2 years of related experience.
  • Exceptional presentation & public speaking skills
  • Ability to build rapport with children and youth ages 5-14 years old
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work collaboratively in a team environment and/or independently
  • Superior time management skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision
  • Proficient using computers and presentation equipment (incl. basic troubleshooting)
  • Availability to work occasional evenings/weekends for special events

Physical Demands:

  • Program planning and material distribution
  • Presentation set up & take down (tables, chairs, computers, projectors, etc)
  • Low level and waist level lifting to 20 lbs. as well as overhead reaching and above shoulder lifting, could also include trunk rotation and side carrying with either dominant or non-dominant hands
  • Frequent use of office equipment including computers, projectors, etc.
  • Sitting for long periods of time
  • Climbing stairs while carrying supplies

Addition Requirements (must be valid at time of hire):

  • RCMP Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • A valid Driver’s License with a satisfactory Driver’s abstract
