About Us:
The Central Alberta Sexual Assault Support Centre (CASASC) is a non-profit organization serving the Central Alberta region under the direction of a community-based Board of Directors.
We specialize in healing sexual trauma and provide a range of judgement-free, support services for individuals and their families who are affected by sexual violence. Our programs and services include counselling, play therapy, police and court support, crisis support and education.
JOB SUMMARY:
COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND SUPPORT WORKER is full time and fully dedicated helping individuals with options support, complex system’s navigation and accompaniment but also with relationship building with their community partners, and stakeholders.
COASW is expected to have full knowledge of, and to follow the Philosophy, the Guidelines for Personnel Policies & Practices, and the Policies & Procedures of the CASASC maintaining client confidentiality.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Diploma in Social Work or related disciplines.
- Two years of minimum experience in community work.
- Superior time management and multitasking skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision.
- Be able to talk to victims with compassion and RESPECT.
- Knowledge about Sexual Abuse and the dynamics of Sexual Violence and trauma inform care.
- Meticulous record-keeping skills.
- Knowledge of community supports for clients.
- Experience working with Indigenous, LGBTQ+ and Immigrant communities and able to develop and implement workplace initiatives.
- Bilingualism in both official languages or any other language is an advantage.
- Must be community-minded and have excellent public relations skills.
- Must be familiar with MS Office products, Social Networks and the Internet in general.
- Must produce an approved police background check that includes the vulnerable sector.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, a completed driver summary with satisfactory results, access to a reliable vehicle with full coverage insurance.
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs/18 kg.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Understanding/knowledge of the issues surrounding sexual assault and its impact on victims/survivors.
- Work closely and support the Integrated Case Manager.
- Help victims of sexual abuse/assault as they navigate the social system.
- Provide specialized support and information on victims/survivors’ rights and options regarding housing, work and food.
- Attend inter-institutional meetings.
- Documentation and monitoring of all functions of the position for the CASASC data collection system.
- Ability to work as a team, with a variety of professionals and people within the community.
- Possibility of travelling through the Central Region.
- Work safely, be familiar with health and safety regulations and report hazards.
- Participate in staff meetings, team meetings, in-service training, and committees as assigned
- Adhere to high agency professional standards as outlined in Personnel Guidelines.
- Perform other duties or tasks as the Executive Director may assign as necessary.
