On Friday June 2nd from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm the Central Alberta Sexual Assault Support Centre was at Parkland Mall for Victims and Survivors of Crime Week! As part of their event they engaged shoppers in the I Respect campaign and the I Believe You campaign. People passing by stopped to write signs, examples were I Respect… the good in everyone, animals, life, kindness, honesty and many more!

Special thanks to Parkland Mall for giving us a table to use and promote our Centre!

Central Alberta Sexual Assault Support Centre would like to thank everyone who participated or helped out with our Victims and Survivors of Crime Week 2017 event, which ran from May 28 to June 3, 2017! Victims Week is a nationwide event that is put on by the Government of Canada every year. This year, the theme was “Empowering Resilience” and there were 195 events that took place across the country. Our goal was to raise awareness of the services around Central Alberta available for Victims and Survivors of crime, and to raise awareness to the issues surrounding respect; the more we show our respect for one another, the less we harm each other. With the number of followers on our social media outlets (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter), active participation, and the attention from two of our local newspapers, we estimate that we reached more than 5000 people throughout Central Alberta.

We would like to extend a special thank you to the survivors who submitted their stories of resiliency anonymously for us to post on the event page. It allows other survivors going through similar situations to see that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Two years ago the Mayor Tara Veer along with the City of Red Deer proclaimed May 28th as the official day of “Respect”. This years Day of Respect fell on a Sunday and was again recognized by many supporters. As disrespect is one of the root causes of many social problems including bullying, harassment, violence and sexual assault our Centre hopes to help foster a culture of respect. Throughout our journey we have started the I Respect Campaign and are happy to announce this year we are continuing our efforts to promote respect with the social media hashtag #respectculture. Too often people speak of rape culture but an emphasis needs to be also placed on respect as a medium of prevention going forward. For more information on how to participate in our campaigns please contact our Centre at casasc@casasc.ca or 403-340-1124.

CASASC at the Market at Red Deer

On Saturday May 27th the Central Alberta Sexual Assault Support Centre attended the Market at Red Deer! The booth was graciously donated by Volunteer Central for the day. Weather was sunny and the volunteers helped raffle off a handcrafted wooden chair donated by John Dickins. All proceeds of the raffle went to helping the “No Secrets” program. As the crowds flowed by, people stopped to  participate in the I Respect Campaign by getting Made To Respect shirts as well as making I Respect signs. The Centre also raised awareness on Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Victims and Survivors of Crime Week and Respect Day! Overall the event was well attended and had many participators!

International Women’s Day

[et_pb_section admin_label=”section”][et_pb_row admin_label=”row”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_image admin_label=”Image” src=”https://casasc.ca/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/International-Women.jpg” show_in_lightbox=”off” url_new_window=”off” use_overlay=”off” animation=”left” sticky=”off” align=”left” force_fullwidth=”off” always_center_on_mobile=”on” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid” /][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

“The International Women’s Day is a Reflection not a Celebration”

We want to create awareness and give everyone a chance to reflect on those women that were murdered and the ones that are still missing.

The empty shoes were once filled by women and children that filled our lives with love, happiness, and joy. In their absence, we need to reflect on their lives.

Take a moment to join us in reflection. We will be at Parkland Mall on March 8th, 2017 (International Women’s Day) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. We will have our display in the old Sport Check.

Hope to see you there!

While we truly appreciate your messages of respect and want them to be heard, there was not enough room on the photos to put the messages in. Please feel free to add your message when you post your own photo or you can add them into the comments. I would also like to add as a side note that you are able to order a copy of your photo without the logo and I Respect through Ashlee @ajkphotography. CASASC is Drumming up Wellness – Drum Circle

Drum Circle Dog

Our drum circle will begin once again on July 13th.

Time: 5:30 pm

Location: Bunn Building – #203 4820 Gaetz Ave.

Contact us at…  Phone: 403.340.1124 or Email: casasc@casasc.ca

Some great quotes:

“If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.” Henry David Thoreau,

Current Research is now verifying the therapeutic effects of ancient rhythm techniques. Recent Research reviews indicate that drumming accelerates physical healing, boosts of the immune system and produces feelings of well-being, a release of emotional trauma, and reintegration of self.

Drum therapy is an ancient approach that uses rhythm to promote healing and self-expression. From the Shamans of Mongolia to the Minianka healers of West Africa, therapeutic rhythm techniques have been used for thousands of years to create and maintain physical, mental, and spiritual health.
